You probably clicked on this because it said NFL picks. Gotcha. There are roughly zero people who care about college basketball picks on NFL Sunday. I am one of them. Probably because betting on the NFL is hard, and college basketball is easy. It's not easy for everyone, but as one of the best college basketball minds in America, I have success. 2022 CBB Record: 9-1
First up, back to Uncasville, Connecticut for the second round of whatever tournament this is. Miami and Maryland take the court at 1 o'clock. TVs across the country will certainly be turned to this one, and not the eight NFL games happening simultaneously. Maryland dismantled St. Louis on Saturday despite being just four-point favorites. The spread here is just one, making this basically a pick 'em.
Picking a game on the second day of a back-to-back on a neutral court is definitely a bad idea. I'm going to do it anyways. I have no idea which team is more well-conditioned and will be ready to go after such a short turnaround, but I'm going to pretend like that doesn't matter. Miami is similar to St. Louis in the sense that it all revolves around a couple of guys. Maryland did a great job dealing with Yuri Collins, the Billikens' star point guard. Miami runs just about everything through Isaiah Wong in the same way. He'll see a lot of double teams when he gets near the hoop. The Terps also have more size in the frontcourt than Providence and should do a better job protecting the rim. Especially because Miami is fairly undersized. I think Miami will struggle to score here and Maryland will be able to pull away. Maryland -1.0
There are a few marquee matchups throughout the day, the most anticipated probably being Gonzaga and Kentucky. I've been a Gonzaga believer for the past few years but I think it's time to hop off the bandwagon. The guard play isn't as good, they don't have a true rim protector, and Drew Timme has been in college for like a billion years. I'm sick of him. I think the play here is to live bet Kentucky just before Oscar Tshiebwe comes onto the floor. For the sake of making a pick, I'll take Kentucky +4.0. That's a certified Dog of the Day™ (1-0) pick. Woof.
Kentucky runs into trouble when they have to run their half-court offense consistently, that shouldn't matter against Gonzaga. Mark Few doesn't know the definition of half-court. The Wildcats have the athletes to keep up and the size to give Gonzaga fits. Kentucky rolls.
